CLEVELAND, Ohio – Interested in buying a large restaurant? You are in luck: A listing on loopnet.com says the 100th Bomb Group restaurant, which sits on 4.5 acres and is adjacent to the north side of Cleveland Hopkins Airport, will be up for auction at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 29.
The restaurant, which was built in 2004, covers 26,432 square feet. It was designed as a World War II-era English farmhouse. Not long after opening it closed temporarily for runway expansion and moved to its present location, about 500 yards away. It is at 20920 Brookpark Road, Cleveland.
The site says it was priced originally at $4,750,000 and is being offered with a reserve price of $990,000.
With stationed planes on its grounds and a view of a runway, the restaurant is filled with old photos and featured an expansive weekend brunch buffet, with servers strolling between tables with trays of Mimosas.
Specialty Restaurants Corp. owns the restaurant.
Three on-site inspection dates are scheduled “where anyone can come and look at the property,” said Mike Berland, principal and managing director of Hanna Commercial Real Estate and Chartwell Real Estate Auctions. “This is going to be a live open outcry auction.”
The on-site dates are 1-3 p.m. on successive Thursdays: Oct. 8, Oct. 15 and Oct. 22.
Interested parties don’t have to register for the auction but they do have to bring a cashier’s check for $100,000 as “initial earnest money to deposit,” he said. Balance will be due at closing, which should be around Monday, Jan. 4, pending airport approval.
A representative from Specialty Restaurants Corp., based in Costa Mesa, California, could not be reached for comment. The company owns restaurants with similar runway concepts in Los Angeles and Van Nuys, California, as well as more than a dozen others featuring pleasant vantages, from water to hills.
World War II flier David Tallichet opened the first SRC restaurant in 1958.
