Former EastEnders star Dean Gaffney has reunited with old co-stars Jamie Borthwick and Max Bowden for a drink.

Dean, 42, posted an image of himself and a friend meeting up for drinks with his former co-stars Jamie, 26, and Max, 25, who each currently portray Jay Brown and Ben Mitchell on the BBC One soap, respectively.

The group grabbed some beverages at Clubroom Brasserie in Harpenden and looked like they were having a very nice time indeed.

The reunion comes after Dean was unceremoniously axed last year after a series of off-screen scandals, especially when he was caught begging a mum-of-two on Facebook to send explicit images to him and sent a series of flirty messages, according to The Daily Star.

Dean’s character Robbie Jackson was written out last year with an abrupt exit after having played the character on and off since 1993.

However, the actor has insisted he will eventually return to Albert Square.

Speaking to The Daily Star on Sunday earlier this year, Dean revealed: “I had a meeting with the boss and they said, ‘The door is left open for Robbie and we will definitely see you in the future’.

“It will happen at some point. It’s just a case of when it happens. So I can’t complain about that.

“It’s nice to know. It’s a bit cliched to say it, but I have been associated with that show on and off for 27 years and that’s a big chunk of my life.”

Robbie was written out when he quickly left the Square to look after his son Sami after he was involved in an accident.

Despite his sadness at leaving the soap, Dean admitted it was the right decision for the show.

Speaking to The Sun, he said: “I think EastEnders just thought enough is enough — and I don’t blame them.

“They said to me, ‘You are either really bad at picking women or you need to sort it out. You need to go off and find out why you are doing these things’.

“They were saying they loved me and wanted me to come back and they wished it wasn’t happening — but it is happening and they need to deal with it.”

Meanwhile back in Walford, Jamie’s Jay is currently enjoying his romantic relationship with Lola Pearce, but is unaware that she cheated on him with her ex-boyfriend Peter Beale.

Finally, Max’s Ben is facing some complications to his romance with Callum Highway as his boyfriend must choose between his loyalty to the Mitchells and his new career with the police force.

EastEnders airs on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays on BBC One.
