UK-based drinks marketing company Skäl Drinks has launched a line of sparkling mead to the European market.
Produced in South Africa, Brut Sparkling Mead is a white sparkling mead, while Brut Rosé is brewed with hibiscus. Both expressions are made with honey, yeast and water.
“Our vision is to bring the energy, excitement and intrigue from the spirits world and use it to refresh a tired sparkling category,” said Skäl Drinks and Van Hunks founder Tom Gamborg. “We… plan to do what Prosecco did to sparkling wine, with no sugar and our authentic craft credentials.”
Van Hunks co-founder & winemaker Matt Krone added: “Mead is an all-natural untapped product that has huge potential for growth. The next generation of consumers is looking for healthier products containing less sugar. That means the time for mead is now.”
